Weekend Road Tripper

Fred's Texas Cafe - Fort Worth

Everybody needs to visit Fred's in Fort Worth at least once. RJ and I have heard about Fred's for a few years but never had the chance to make a trip over give it a go until fairly recently. Fred's is soooo Fort Worth - laid back and great. It's tucked away just seconds from the Arts District on Currie Street and is well known for its yummy foods. Of course the most popular items are their burgers - they are legendary - but they also offer a wide array of Texas tastiness- tacos, ribeyes, chicken fried steaks, quail & eggs......<< MORE >>

Frankie's Mexican Cuisine - Richardson

We are one week into the New Year and RJ and I have already done pretty well for ourselves- we discovered a new restaurant this morning that is TERRFIC! We came upon Frankie's Mexican Grill yesterday quite by accident while looking for something else. It looked so intriguing that I had to google it up right then and there on my phone! I noticed several reviews through Yelp & Urban Spoon - all giving Frankie's thumbs up. << MORE >>

Jorge's Tex-Mex - One Arts Plaza - Downtown Dallas

I'm embarrassed to admit this but I had no idea how cool the Arts District in downtown Dallas is. There's been so much growth in that area lately and I really haven't kept up.

RJ and I had heard about Jorge's downtown but didn't know for sure where it was located so we set off last weekend to find it. Turns out it's in One Arts Plaza. Now, I HAVE heard of that - I listen to WRR on the radio and know they broadcast some of their noontime shows from there.<< MORE >>

El Pescador Mariscos

Here's a true gem of a restaurant for you if you like Mexican seafood... El Pescador Mariscos in Plano. This is an out-of-the-way but well worth the find,  treat of a place. Serving everything from ceviche, shrimp cocktails, seafood soups, quesadillas, tostadas &  nachos to full seafood platters & whole fish platters, there is definitely something for everyone. Not into seafood? Don't worry....they also have beef and chicken dishes.

Prices are righteous and, at lunch.....listen to this....they have 18 different daily (Mon-Fri) lunch specials for only $5.95 and that includes your drink!

I sampled the lunch Enchiladas Diablo- spicy cheese enchiladas topped with a cheese sauce &  three grilled jumbo shrimp, and served with rice and beans. It was simply outstanding.

I can't wait to go back with RJ and get try their ceviche and soups. I am sure we will not be disappointed.

El Pescador is located at 1424 Jupiter Road, Suite 203, in Plano. It's in a strip center behind the one with Royal Chopstix (that's just a bit north of Jupiter Rd & FM544). You can turn into the center where Royal Chopstix is or turn east on 15th Street . It's at the east end of the strip mall.

Esperanza's Mexican Cafe & Bakery

RJ & I have treated ourselves to meals at Esperanza's Mexican Cafe & Bakery in the Fort Worth Stockyards on more than a few occasions and always thoroughly enjoy it.

The menu is extensive and we've never had anything we didn't like. On our last visit, I had one of my favorites - the gorditas stuffed with fajita beef. I love those little corn pockets that are always lightly fried, then filled to the brim with meat, arranged on the plate and covered with lettuce, tomatoes & cheese. Served with rice and beans, it makes for a perfect lunch!

RJ chose one of his favorites too- barbacoa tacos - 3 to a plate, served with rice, beans and a small bit of salad.

Esperanza's is an offshoot of the famous Joe T. Garcia's and uses some of their same recipes. The main dining room is always lively, with wandering musicians, and lots of locals. The outdoor dining area is landscaped with flowers and trees - very pretty and you'll enjoy being out there if it's not too hot

Be sure to check out their bakery on the way out. Pick up some of their colorful pastires to take home!

You can find Esperanza's at:
2122 North Main Street, Fort Worth - (817) 626-5770

Sugar Hill Cafe

RJ & I stopped by recently for lunch at Sugar Hill Cafe in downtown Farmersville. We'd spotted it once before when we were there for a festival and finally were back in the area at lunchtime.<< MORE >>
